Yeosu's summer sea is only half the fun if you think beaches alone. From June to September, Yeosu City runs free marine-leisure programs (windsurfing, kayaking, snorkeling, dinghy yachting, and more) at Ungcheon Beach, the Yeosu Expo grounds, and the Soho Yacht Marina. You sign up through the OK integrated reservation site (yeosu.go.kr/newok), by phone, or on site, and the beaches run in peak summer (roughly early July to mid-August) from 10:00 to 19:00, though dates shift each year, so confirm before you go.
Three hubs for free experiences
- Ungcheon Beach and Waterside Park: the most accessible from the city, with free kayaking, windsurfing, snorkeling, and dinghy yachting
- Yeosu Expo grounds: free kayaking and water bikes, plus great night-view, food, and lodging access
- Soho Yacht Marina: free sailing experiences including dinghy and cruiser yachts
Beaches and islands
Manseong-ri is famous for its rare black sand and sand bathing, while on Dolsan the family favorites are Mosageum (shallow water for kids, plus black porgy fishing), Bangjukpo (shade under 200-year-old pines), and Museulmok (a pebble beach with a low-tide sand flat and the marine science museum next door). Round it out to taste with Ando Beach in Dadohaehaesang National Park, an island trek to Geomundo and Baekdo (a two-hour ferry, National Scenic Site No. 7), or the Dolsan sea zipline (130 m high, 1.2 km, 80 km/h).
