Korean weather forecasts can be confusing if you do not read Korean. Here is how to access reliable English weather information.
Main English-friendly options. Weather Underground (wunderground.com) and AccuWeather have detailed Korean city forecasts in English. The default Apple Weather and Google Weather use AccuWeather or similar data sources for Korean cities. The free option works well for daily use.
Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA, 기상청). Korea's official weather service. The kma.go.kr website has an English version with detailed regional and city forecasts. Their Naver-based app (날씨알리미) has English mode and detailed hour-by-hour, daily, and 10-day forecasts.
AirVisual or IQAir app. Beyond regular weather, this app tracks fine dust (PM2.5) and air quality in real time. Critical from March to May during yellow dust and fine dust season. Free, English interface, accurate.
Naver and Kakao Map. Both include weather widgets on their main screens. They show current conditions, hourly forecast, daily temperature, and air quality. English mode is available.
Seasonal alerts to watch for. Most weather apps push notifications during warnings.
Korean weather vocabulary basics. 비 (rain), 눈 (snow), 흐림 (cloudy), 맑음 (clear), 천둥 (thunder), 우박 (hail), 안개 (fog). 미세먼지 (fine dust), 황사 (yellow dust).
Most reliable setup. Default Apple/Google Weather for quick check, AirVisual for air quality, KMA for severe weather. For real-time radar and detailed hourly precipitation, Weather Underground or AccuWeather are excellent.
For outdoor activities planning. Yonhap News has English weekly forecasts. CNN Weather Korea page shows national outlook. Korean newspapers like Korea Herald and Korea Times publish daily forecasts in English with cultural context.
