On a first trip to eastern Jeju, Seongsan Ilchulbong and Seopjikoji fit comfortably into one day: the circular crater of a cone risen from the sea, and a wind-carved cliff walk.
This order runs cleanest
Seongsan Ilchulbong → Gwangchigi Beach (briefly) → Seopjikoji. Each leg is 10-15 minutes by car, and Seongsan to Seopjikoji is about 5 km.
- For sunrise, arrive 60-90 minutes before and climb to the summit
- For an unhurried day, enter around 9:30am and carry on to Seopjikoji and the coastal cafes in the afternoon
Seongsan Ilchulbong — fees and hours
- Admission: adults 5,000 won / teens, military and children 2,500 won (UNESCO World Natural Heritage)
- Hours: May-Aug until 20:00, Mar-Apr and Sep-Oct until 19:00, Nov-Feb until 18:00. It opens an hour before sunrise
- Summit round trip 60-90 minutes
Two things catch people out. Ticket sales stop an hour before closing, and it is shut the first Monday of every month. Reading only the closing time is how you arrive to find the booth shut.
Seopjikoji — free to enter, you pay only to park
The walk to the lighthouse and back is just over 1 km and flat, fine in trainers, and takes 40-60 minutes.
The only charge is parking: 1,000 won for the first 30 minutes, then 500 won per 15 minutes, capped at 3,000 won a day.
Gwangchigi Beach is a 10-minute bonus
It sits between the two. At low tide it frames Seongsan Ilchulbong above black lava rock in a single shot — a favourite for sunrise and sunset, and a 10-15 minute stop.
A windbreaker, in any season
Eastern Jeju is genuinely windy, year-round. Neither the summit nor the Seopjikoji cliff path has anything to break it.
