Where can I take my dog in Seoul?
Where can I take my dog in Seoul? Are there dog parks, dog-friendly cafes, and other places that welcome pets?
1 Answer
Seoul has become much more pet-friendly in recent years. Here is where to take your dog around the city.
Dog parks. The most famous is the Han River dog runs at Jamsil, Banpo, and Ttukseom. Most Han River parks have designated off-leash areas (애견 놀이터). Olympic Park in Songpa has a large dedicated dog playground. Hangang Park near Yeouido has lawn areas where dogs play, though strict off-leash rules vary by section. Seoul Forest in Seongsu has a small dedicated dog play zone.
Dog-friendly cafes. Hundreds of cafes in Seoul welcome dogs, especially in trendy neighborhoods. Hapjeong, Yeonnam-dong, Seongsu, and Itaewon have many. Some are dedicated dog cafes where you can meet other dogs (Jjondol Cafe, Cafe Bauhaus, etc.). Always check on Instagram or Naver before going since policies change. Look for 강아지 동반 (dog-friendly) in reviews.
Restaurants. More restaurants now allow small dogs, especially patio seating. Naver Map lets you filter by 반려동물 동반 가능 (pet allowed). Itaewon, Hannam-dong, and Seongsu have the most options.
Shopping malls and department stores. Some high-end malls allow leashed pets including The Hyundai Seoul, Starfield Goyang, and Times Square. Dog must be in stroller or carrier in some sections. Pet supply stores like Bauhaus, Molly's Pet Shop, and Pet Park have entire pet-themed floors.
Hotels and travel. Many pensions and hotels outside Seoul welcome dogs (search Naver 애견 동반 펜션). In Seoul, brands like Park Hyatt and some boutique hotels accept pets with fees.
Transport. Subway and bus allow dogs only in fully enclosed carriers (not strollers). Taxis vary by driver, ask first. Kakao Taxi has a 펫택시 option for larger pets. The Han River ferry allows leashed dogs.
Must-know rule. Picking up after your dog is mandatory by law. Always carry waste bags. Aggressive dog breeds (Pit Bull, Tosa, Rottweiler, Doberman, Staffordshire Terrier) must be muzzled and leashed in public. Bring your dog's registration tag (microchip required for dogs).
