If I book an autumn campsite through GoCamping, how do cancellations and refunds work?

Li Na · Editorial Persona ·

I am from China, living in Gyeonggi on an F-4 visa, and I want to book a campsite near Gapyeong for the first time in October. I can search sites on GoCamping, but the actual booking and payment seem to hand off to a different page for every campsite, so I am not sure whose rules apply.

Rain could force me to cancel, so I want to know the refund policy in advance and from how many days out a penalty starts.

The refund rules that apply are the ones on the page where the booking and payment actually happened, not GoCamping's. GoCamping (gocamping.or.kr) is an information portal run by the Korea Tourism Organization; it aggregates campsite listings, while reservations and cancellations are handled by each campsite or by whichever booking platform it hands you off to. Whatever appears on the screen just before you pay is the contract.

So the practical step is to capture that screen before you commit. Look for three things: the refund percentage by how far in advance you cancel, whether peak and off-peak seasons are treated differently, and whether there is any separate clause for cancelling because of weather. Some sites charge the standard penalty regardless of rain; others make an exception only when a formal weather advisory has been issued for the area. Assuming the second and getting the first is the usual way people lose a deposit.

If a campsite has no published terms, or the terms look unreasonably one-sided, the Korea Fair Trade Commission's consumer dispute resolution standards include criteria for campground businesses, setting refund rates according to when you cancel and whether it is peak season. You can negotiate on that basis, and if that goes nowhere, the consumer counselling centre on 1372 handles complaints.

When choosing where to book, it is worth checking whether the campsite is registered under the Tourism Promotion Act. Registered campgrounds carry mandatory liability insurance, which matters if anything goes wrong on site, and listings on GoCamping often show this status alongside the facilities.

Gapyeong weekends fill up unusually fast in October. Shortlist sites with a generous free-cancellation window rather than the cheapest one, and pay by card — it leaves you more room to dispute a charge later if the campsite will not honour its own terms.
