Some landlords prefer cash, often citing transfer fees. From a tenant's side the option that leaves no record is always the worse one. If a dispute ever arises about whether a month was paid, you need something to show, and a conversation you remember clearly is not that.
Check three things before you send
Confirm the bank name, the account holder's name and the account number directly with your landlord. When sending through a banking app, make a habit of reading the account holder's name that appears on the confirmation screen before you approve the transfer. A single wrong digit sends the money to a stranger, and recovering it is neither quick nor guaranteed. Check too that the account belongs to the landlord named in your contract rather than a relative or an agency.
What to keep afterwards
Screenshot the transfer record, or simply never delete the confirmation messages your bank sends. Because rent repeats monthly, a few months of these accumulate into a payment history without any effort on your part. That record is what settles questions later, whether about a disputed month or about the state of your account when the deposit is returned.
Automatic transfers help, with two conditions
Setting up an automatic transfer removes the risk of simply forgetting, which is the most common cause of late rent. Two things need attention. If the balance is short on the transfer date the payment fails and you are in arrears without having decided anything, so set the date with your salary date in mind rather than choosing the first of the month by default. And when you move out or the contract ends, cancel the standing instruction. Money continuing to leave for an apartment you no longer live in is a recurring and entirely avoidable problem. Cancel it the same day the final payment clears.
Dormitories and share houses may work differently
Company-run share houses and dormitories sometimes take payment by card through a website or app. That is convenient, but check whether a card processing fee is added. If you have to send money from an account in your home country, the exchange rate and transfer fees change what actually arrives, so send with enough margin that the agreed amount lands in full and allow extra days for it to clear.
