What water sports are available in Korea?

Korea has a great water sports scene, especially in summer. For surfing, the two main hubs are the east coast around Yangyang, where Jukdo Beach is the famous surf town with a lively beach-club vibe, and Busan, where Songjeong Beach is the go-to for lessons and rentals. Both have plenty of surf shops offering board rental and beginner lessons around 50,000 to 80,000 won, and Yangyang in particular has become Korea's surfing capital. For paddleboarding and kayaking you do not even have to leave Seoul, since there are SUP and kayak rentals on the Han River and the calm water is beginner-friendly.

Gapyeong and the Bukhangang river area near Seoul are big for water skiing, wakeboarding, and jet skiing, with leisure centers renting gear and giving lessons. For something more tropical, Jeju offers scuba diving, snorkeling, and freediving with surprisingly clear water and unique volcanic underwater scenery, and there are dive centers with English-speaking instructors. A few things to know: the main season is roughly June through September, the water is genuinely cold outside summer so a wetsuit is smart in spring and autumn, and always check for jellyfish and current warnings at the beach. Booking through Naver or a shop's Instagram is normal, many east-coast and Busan surf shops are used to foreign customers and teach in English, and weekends get busy so go early.
