Here, 'visa extension' means an extension of your period of stay. You're not changing your visa type but keeping your current status (D-2 or an E-series) and extending the time, so it's manageable once you have the timing and documents right.
When to apply
You can apply from 4 months before your stay expires, and you must apply by the expiry date (the day before for e-applications). Don't cram it at the last minute — start the moment the 4-month window opens.
How to apply
Processing through HiKorea e-application without a visit gets a 20% fee discount (for eligible e-application tasks). In-person applications require a HiKorea reservation.
Four common required documents
- Integrated application form (Form 34) — check 'extension of stay' and sign with contact info
- Passport
- Alien Registration Card (ARC)
- Proof of residence (lease, dormitory confirmation, etc.)
Fee
The extension-of-stay fee is 60,000 won. Don't confuse it with the 35,000-won fee for issuing or reissuing the ARC card.
