How do I read and understand Korean utility bills? What are the different bills I will receive, and how do I set up payment?

You will usually get a few separate bills, and how many depends on your building. In an apartment or officetel, electricity, water, cleaning, elevator, and sometimes heating are often bundled into a single monthly management fee (관리비) sent by the building office. If you pay utilities individually, electricity comes from KEPCO (한전), gas from your regional city gas company, and water from the district (구청) waterworks. Each bill (고지서) shows the billing period, your usage, this month's charge, and a due date, and the giro number at the bottom is what you use to pay.

For setup, the easiest route is automatic transfer (자동이체) from your Korean bank account, which you arrange by calling the provider or through their site or app so you never miss a due date. You can also pay at any bank, at a convenience store or ATM by scanning the giro slip, or through banking apps and Kakao Pay. If the wording is unclear, the key terms are 사용량 (usage), 청구금액 (amount due), 납기일 (due date), and 미납 (overdue). Many providers offer an app or an e-bill by email or KakaoTalk. If you are unsure which bills apply to you, ask your landlord or the building management office, since they know exactly what is bundled and what you pay separately.
