If you plan to stay in Korea for more than 90 days, you generally need to register within 90 days of arrival. Applying for your first Residence Card, often called an ARC? Start with your appointment and proof of address.
Prepare your documents
- Bring your passport, application form and proof of residence. If the lease is not in your name, ask your immigration office what additional accommodation evidence is required.
- Prepare one 3.5cm × 4.5cm front-facing photo with a white background, taken within the past six months.
- Check the extra documents for your status, such as student or employment records. Requirements differ by visa.
Book and apply
Reserve a visit through HiKorea at the immigration office responsible for your residential address. Submit your documents, provide biometric information as required and confirm card collection arrangements. The Ministry of Justice notice effective January 1, 2025 sets the card issuance fee at KRW 35,000. Confirm the current fee and payment method before visiting.
Avoid preventable delays
Check your photo specifications, passport-name spelling and address details. Booking an appointment alone does not complete registration. Requirements and exceptions vary by status, office and date; confirm your checklist through HiKorea or the Immigration Contact Center at 1345.
