The first hour after losing your passport, wallet or phone — in order

WeBring ·

The order is the whole thing. Lock the phone (accounts), freeze the cards (money), block identity misuse (passport), then file the official reports. Done in that order, an hour cuts the damage sharply. If your safety is at risk, 112 (police) or 119 (emergency) comes first.

Lost or stolen — decide in ten seconds

If theft is likely (pickpocket, robbery), an official case record matters, so call 112 first. If you probably left it somewhere, use the police LOST112 portal together with the lost-and-found of the place you were. The lost-item helpline is 182.

0 to 10 minutes — phone and cards

  • Phone — lock it remotely from another device (iPhone at icloud.com/find Lost Mode, Android at android.com/find), change your Google and Apple passwords, and call your carrier to suspend the SIM
  • Wallet and cards — freeze them in the card app or by phone, and stop transit cards and mobile pay such as Samsung Pay and Apple Pay as well

10 to 30 minutes — police report and lost-item filing

If theft is suspected, report to 112. Interpretation in English and Chinese runs 24 hours, so say "Interpreter please" once you are connected.

Lead with four things — where, when you last had it, what is missing, and why you think it was taken — and the report moves much faster.

Blocking identity misuse

  • Passport — report it to your own embassy or consulate and apply for a replacement
  • Residence card — contact immigration on 1345

Save these now

  • 112 · 119 · 182 · 1345
  • Your embassy's number
  • Your card issuers' lost-card lines

Looking these up after the fact is already too late. The full step-by-step checklist is on the WeBring blog.
