Hyeopjae and Geumneung are neighboring “twin beaches” on Jeju’s west coast, connected by the same stretch of sand. Combining them in one day gives you Hyeopjae’s lively atmosphere and Biyangdo views, Geumneung’s quieter low-tide pools, and a west-coast sunset without wasting time in transit.

Which beach should be your main stop?
Choose Hyeopjae for a first visit, easy access to cafes and restaurants, and the classic view of emerald water with Biyangdo Island. It also connects with part of Jeju Olle Trail Course 14. Choose Geumneung if you are traveling with children or prefer a calmer walk. At low tide, the water recedes to reveal a broad sandbar and shallow natural pools. Check the Jeju tide schedule before leaving and bring water shoes for shells and rocks.
A practical one-day route
- From 09:30 to 11:00, make an optional stop at Hallim Park. Allow about 90 minutes for its caves, gardens, and walking paths; parking is listed as free.
- From 11:30 to 12:30, have lunch around Hyeopjae or Hallim, where seafood, bomal dishes, and black pork are easy to find.
- From 12:30 to 15:30, swim at Hyeopjae, rest under the pine trees, and take photos toward Biyangdo.
- From 15:30 to 17:30, continue to Geumneung for a beach walk and low-tide pools. You can walk along the connected shore or make a very short drive.
- From 17:30 until sunset, stay at either beach for the view toward Biyangdo, then finish with dinner in Hallim or toward Aewol.

Transport and what to bring
A rental car or taxi makes this itinerary easiest. Public buses are possible, but you should allow extra time for waiting and transfers. Beach opening hours, summer night access, equipment rentals, and shower facilities can change by season and year, so confirm current details through Visit Jeju and on-site notices. Pack sunscreen, a hat, drinking water, a mat, and water shoes. A light outer layer is useful after sunset when the sea breeze picks up.
Quick summary
Hyeopjae is best for a first visit and a livelier beach scene; Geumneung is better for families, quiet walking, and low-tide play. Hallim Park in the morning, lunch, Hyeopjae swimming, Geumneung walking, and sunset make a smooth full-day west Jeju route.
