Best neighborhoods for families with kids?
We are a family of 4 (2 adults + 2 kids ages 5 and 8) relocating to Seoul. Looking for recommendations on family-friendly neighborhoods.
What we need:
- International school nearby
- Parks and playgrounds
- Safe environment
- Good public transportation
- Reasonable rent (under 2M KRW/month for 3 bedrooms)
We're open to areas outside of Seoul proper if they meet these criteria. Any suggestions from expat parents?

Great question! There are several really solid family-friendly neighborhoods in Seoul, each with their own strengths.
Yongsan and Hannam-dong (용산/한남동) is popular with foreigner families because Yongsan International School is nearby and there are many English-friendly services in the area. The parks along the Han River are beautiful for kids, though rent is on the higher end at around 2-4 million KRW per month for an apartment.
Songpa and Jamsil (송파/잠실) is another excellent choice, especially since Lotte World and Olympic Park are right there for kids' activities. The area has great public schools, some with international programs, and has a really family-oriented, safe vibe. Rent is more moderate at around 1.5-3 million KRW per month.
Bundang and Pangyo (분당/판교) in Gyeonggi-do are also very popular with families. These areas are newer and more spacious than central Seoul, with excellent schools and lots of green space. Many tech companies are located in Pangyo, so if you work in tech, the commute is convenient. The Shinbundang Line gives you fast access to Gangnam when you need to go into the city.
Overall, if budget is less of a concern and you want maximum English-friendly infrastructure, Yongsan/Hannam is hard to beat. For a more Korean family lifestyle with great amenities, Songpa/Jamsil or Bundang are wonderful choices.
