What should I confirm before extending a Korean language course by one more term?
I am studying at a university language institute in Jeonju and I am thinking about adding one more term instead of finishing this autumn. The institute handles registration, but I am not sure what changes on my side if my study period gets longer. What should I ask the institute and the immigration office before I pay the next term's tuition?

The institute handles the registration, but the visa side is yours, and that is the part that actually changes. Your D-4 stay period has to cover the new term, so check the expiry date on your card first. Extensions can be applied for from about four months before expiry, and you apply yourself through HiKorea or at your local office using documents the institute gives you.
From the institute, ask for the certificate of enrolment or expected enrolment for the new term, the tuition receipt, and your attendance certificate, and ask whether they submit extension applications as a group for their students. Many institutes do, which saves you a trip. Ask them as well about attendance, because a low attendance rate is by far the most common reason an extension gets refused, and it is worth knowing where you stand before you pay.
The question people forget to ask is about total length. Immigration looks at how long you have been studying in a language programme overall, and once the cumulative period gets long, typically beyond about two years, further extensions become harder and they will want to know what your plan is. If you are heading toward a degree course, adding a term to reach the TOPIK level you need is exactly the kind of reason that makes sense, so it helps to be able to say that clearly.
From immigration, confirm what your specific case needs. Extensions usually require proof of funds such as a recent bank balance certificate, and the amount expected changes from time to time, so check the current requirement rather than assuming last year's figure.
