Can students outside the music department book a campus piano practice room at a Korean university?
I am an international engineering student in Daejeon and would like to keep practising the piano between classes. How can I find out whether campus practice rooms are open to students outside the music department? If they are restricted, which university office or student club could help me find another place to practise?

Do not assume that a music department's practice rooms are open to all students. You need the rules for your own university and the particular room; being an engineering student does not by itself establish whether you can book it.
Start with the music department office, if your university has one, or the office managing the building. Ask whether non-music majors can use the piano rooms, whether you need permission or a booking account, and whether there are restrictions during teaching or exam periods. Also confirm whether a piano is provided, how access works, and whether there is a charge before making plans.
If departmental rooms are restricted, ask Student Affairs, the student centre, or the student clubs union about shared practice spaces and piano or music clubs. Your international student office can help you identify the right contact or understand a Korean booking notice. A useful message is: 'I am an international engineering student. May students outside the music department book a room with a piano for individual practice? If not, is there a shared student room or a music club I can contact?'
If you attend KAIST, its official undergraduate clubs page lists PIAST for piano performance and gives a contact for the Student Clubs Union: https://www.kaist.ac.kr/en/html/campus/053302.html. This is a route to ask about practice options, not confirmation that a room is available or that non-members can use it. If you attend another university in Daejeon, use that university's own club directory instead.
For an off-campus alternative, you could ask a nearby piano studio whether it rents practice time without lessons. Confirm the instrument, price, booking and cancellation terms directly with the studio; no particular studio or current rate has been verified here. Checked: 2026-10-07.
