I am leaving Korea and need employment references and documentation from my Korean employer for future job applications abroad. What documents should I request and how does the Korean system work? Ask HR for a certificate of career (경력증명서) and a certificate of employment (재직증명서), which Korean companies issue as standard, ideally before your last day. Korea doesn't always write open reference letters the way Western companies do, but you can ask a manager to write one personally. If you'll use these documents abroad, you may need an apostille, which you arrange through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs after notarization.
