Preparing to study in Korea means coordinating the school, the visa, housing and your arrival date rather than handling each separately. Starting six to twelve months before your intended semester leaves room for document authentication and visa processing.

Define whether you are here for Korean-language study, a degree, or career preparation. Then compare programme, tuition, scholarships, location, local living costs and dormitory conditions together.
Korean universities generally start spring semesters in March and fall semesters in September, but deadlines and admission requirements vary. The university's international office and official admissions guide are what count.
Documents and the visa
- Usually — graduation and academic transcripts, a passport copy, proof of funds, and language scores such as TOPIK, TOEFL or IELTS
- Depending on school and major — a personal statement, recommendation letters, or a portfolio
- Overseas documents — notarization or an apostille may be required. This is the slowest item, so start it first
- Visa — D-2 for degree study, D-4 for non-degree training such as a university Korean-language programme. Confirm with the Korean mission in your country and HiKorea
Check the dormitory date before booking the flight
Once admitted, recheck the passport, photo, application form and financial evidence, then book travel allowing for processing time. Confirming orientation and dormitory move-in dates first avoids paying for temporary accommodation you did not need. Compare one-way against round-trip fares and change fees while you are there.
Arrive with enough margin to learn the basics of banking, mobile service and transport before term starts.
