Can your new employer sponsor you — what immigration checks on the company

WeBring ·

For an employer-linked status such as E-7, the company is reviewed alongside you. A good offer from a company that cannot sponsor does not become a visa. Before you resign anywhere, find out whether the employer clears the sponsor side.

What is examined on the company side

  • Whether the role fits an eligible occupation for the status — the job title on the offer is not the test
  • Requirements the employer itself must meet, covering its business, its staffing, and its ability to sponsor a foreign worker
  • Company documents: business registration, and tax or financial records where requested

Get the contract specific

Ask for a formal employment contract that states the position, the duties, the salary, the contract period and the start date. A vague contract is one of the easier ways for an application to stall, because the reviewer cannot match the duties to an occupation.

Sequence matters more than speed

Do not start the new job assuming the filing will fix the status later. Confirm the correct order through HiKorea before leaving your current employer and before starting at the new one. Depending on the case you may need proof of your current status, passport and residence card, the contract, your qualifications, the employer's documents, and evidence about income or employment.

What to ask the employer before you accept

  • Have they sponsored this status before
  • Who prepares the company-side documents, and by when
  • Whether the start date can move if approval takes longer

Requirements vary by status, occupation, nationality and company. When the online guidance does not settle your case, the Immigration Contact Center on 1345 will. The full walkthrough is on the WeBring blog.
