How do I pay electricity, water, and gas bills in Korea — is auto-pay worth it?

Zhang Min ·

Living alone now, I get separate monthly bills for electricity, water, gas, and building maintenance, and I'm not sure where or how to pay them. People say bank or card auto-payment is convenient, but I don't know if foreigners can set it up. I'd also appreciate knowing how to check and pay through an app instead of relying on paper bills.

Electricity is billed by KEPCO, water by your city's waterworks office, gas by the local city-gas company, and maintenance (관리비) by your building office — and with just your ARC and a Korean bank account you can set up auto-debit or auto card payment for all of them. KEPCO has the KEPCO:ON app, gas companies have their own apps or call centers, and for maintenance you register a transfer with the building office. You can also get paperless bills and pay each month through KakaoPay or Naver Pay, but most people just set auto-pay so they never worry about late fees.
