What's the Netflix experience like in Korea? Are there issues watching both US and Korean content? Does VPN work reliably?

Netflix in Korea works fine and has a rich library, but the catalog is region-specific. Here is what to expect.
Korean Netflix catalog. Korean Netflix has the largest and best Korean content selection, including K-dramas, K-movies, and originals filmed in Korea. Many shows are exclusive to Korean Netflix. The library also includes major Hollywood content, but specific titles vary from the US version due to licensing deals.
US or other regional content. Some US shows are not available on Korean Netflix because of regional rights. To access US content, you can use a VPN, but Netflix actively blocks most VPNs. The reliable options are ExpressVPN, NordVPN, and Surfshark for streaming. Free VPNs almost never work for Netflix. Performance is decent but expect occasional buffering or blocked sessions.
Subscription cost. Korean Netflix plans run 9,500 to 17,000 won monthly, with Basic, Standard, and Premium tiers. Premium supports 4K. Korean payment cards, KakaoPay, and Naver Pay all work. Some Korean telecoms (KT, LG U+, SK) offer Netflix bundles with mobile plans at discounts.
Profile setup. You can have multiple profiles per account. Subtitles support Korean, English, Chinese, Japanese, and dozens of other languages. Audio dubbing for Korean shows is limited to Korean usually, but English originals dub into Korean.
Alternative streaming. Coupang Play, Tving, and Wavve are Korean platforms with Korean content. Disney Plus and Apple TV are also available. For US-specific shows, sometimes you can find them on Tving or Wavve in licensed Korean releases.
VPN considerations. Korea does not block VPN use for personal streaming, but Netflix and most major streaming services do detect and block known VPN servers. If a session works one day and fails the next, that is normal. Try multiple servers.
