My baby was born in Korea?
My baby was born in Korea. How do I register the birth, and what documents do I need to obtain for my child's legal status?

Congratulations on your baby! The first step is to get the birth certificate from the hospital where your baby was born. The hospital will issue a Korean birth certificate (출생증명서) automatically.
For your child s legal status, you need to register the birth with your home country s embassy or consulate in Korea. Most embassies require the Korean birth certificate, your passport, and your marriage certificate if applicable. This gives your child citizenship from your home country. If both parents are foreigners, the child does not automatically get Korean citizenship. You should also register your baby on your ARC as a dependent and get a separate ARC for the baby through immigration. Visit the immigration office with the birth certificate, both parents passports, ARCs, and passport photos of the baby. For health insurance, your baby can be added to your National Health Insurance within 14 days of birth so all the checkups and vaccinations are covered right away.
