What is the KIIP program, how do I register, and what should I expect from the classes? I heard it helps with visa applications and permanent residency.

KIIP (Korean Immigration and Integration Program) is a free Korean language and culture program run by the Ministry of Justice. You register at socinet.go.kr or by calling 1345, then take a placement test that assigns you to level 0 (basic Hangul) through level 5 (Korean Society Understanding).

Classes usually run on weekends or evenings at designated centers, around 4-6 hours per week. Completing level 5 gives you significant benefits: Korean language test exemption for permanent residency (F-5) and naturalization, plus points for the F-2 points-based visa. Many foreigners enroll specifically for these long-term benefits. The whole program is free including textbooks. Classes are taught entirely in Korean from level 1 onward, so it's most useful if you have some basic Korean.
