Korea generally has very good playground safety standards and the country is considered one of the safest places in the world for children. Public playgrounds are regularly inspected and most have soft rubber flooring under equipment. Newer apartment complexes usually have well-maintained playgrounds within the complex grounds.

One cultural difference you might notice is that Korean parents tend to give children more independence at playgrounds than in some Western countries. It is common to see young kids playing without a parent hovering right next to them, especially in apartment complex playgrounds where neighbors know each other. Indoor play centers called 키즈카페 are extremely popular and offer supervised play areas with ball pits, slides, and craft activities for around 10,000 to 15,000 won per child. These are great for rainy days or extreme weather. For younger children, 육아종합지원센터 (childcare support centers) in each district offer free play spaces and parenting programs. Car seat laws require children under 6 to use car seats, and this is enforced. Overall you will find Korea is very child-friendly with family rooms in most public restrooms and nursing rooms in department stores and large buildings.
