Hagwons (학원) are a huge part of childhood in Korea, and there are great options for expat kids. They roughly fall into three categories. International-style hagwons like Eye Level, Kumon, and JEI English teach in English with foreign or bilingual instructors and run about 200,000 to 400,000 won per month per subject. Korean-language hagwons offer everything from math (수학학원) and science to taekwondo, art, piano, and coding, usually 150,000 to 300,000 won monthly. They're great for kids to make Korean friends and pick up the language naturally.

For academic support, the big chains like Chungdahm, Pagoda Junior, Avalon, and YBM April have English-immersion curricula and many branches in Gangnam, Bundang, Mokdong, and Songdo, areas with high expat populations. Sign-ups happen mostly in March and September though many accept rolling enrollment. Visit a few in person and ask for a 무료 체험 (free trial class), which most provide. Talk to other expat parents in your area through Facebook groups like "Seoul Mama" or "Yongsan Family" for local recommendations. Be aware that the schedule can get intense, with kids going to 3 to 5 different academies per week, so set boundaries based on your child's stamina and interests.
