How can foreigners get hired at Korean startups? Which job boards and communities actually work?

Priya Sharma ·

I am an Indian backend developer interested in the Korean startup scene. Are Korean startups generally open to hiring foreigners and willing to sponsor E-7 visas? Roughly what share of them actually do?

Which job boards, Slack groups, or networking events are most useful for foreign developers, and is intermediate-level Korean enough to land an offer?

Korean startups have become noticeably more open to hiring foreigners, but the ones that actively sponsor E-7 visas tend to be companies that have raised Series A or beyond and have some scale, since early-stage startups often find sponsorship burdensome. For job hunting, Wanted is the most active platform for tech roles and has quite a few English listings, and it is worth also checking RocketPunch, LinkedIn, KOTRA Contact Korea, and JobKorea Global. For networking, look at developer meetups around Gangnam and Pangyo, the Disquiet community, and nationality-based developer chats. Intermediate Korean is enough to work on an English-speaking global team, but the stronger your Korean, the wider your options become. A solid English LinkedIn profile and a real portfolio go a long way for foreign developers here, and recruiters do reach out through LinkedIn fairly often.
